Simple but comfortable cafe

Hundreds of cafes open around Shanghai every half a year, some of which
you adore. How can a place specializing in the simplicities of coffee and
comfort get these essential elements wrong?

La Bella maybe on the list. Located in Yongfu Lu (close to Fuxing Xi Lu),
one of the more charming streets of French. She's returned to the
mainland with a vision to make a cafe that would work well in San
Francisco, yet fit perfectly in Shanghai as well.

Her cafe has the personality and personal care that few others do, and
while stylish and contemporary, the coffee and comfort haven't been
forgotten. The bold color scheme -- turquoise and hot pink -- along with
the choice tunes (now not as intrusive as before) and black and white
silent films projected on the wall, inspire the creative minds that
frequent this hangout.

There's free WiFi and well-crafted Illy coffee drinks, but La Bella is
more than a cafe: week nights feature a cocktail happy hour (5pm-8pm, two
for the price of one, and they're all priced at RMB55), and these are
refreshingly good in a town with a serious cocktail deficiency. There's
also a line-up of live music, of the quieter variety.
